Vox Hunt: What A Character

Show us your favorite literary character.

"The Chief" from Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.  He was hanging out in a mental institution, posing as a deaf-mute, when he could hear and speak perfectly well.  He did this as a response to society treating him as if he couldn't understand, or that his words didn't matter.  He acted the invalid, but ended up being very strong.  Great character.  Will Sampson (above, with some guy named Jack Nicholson) did a wonderful job portraying him in the film version.
